Belly Dance Hipwork Drills & Practice Choreography with Neon

4 classes
Classes 1 and 2 (50 min each) are hipwork conditioning and technique polishing - open level. Sometimes you have some time to work on your dance skills but you are too tired or distracted to memorize combinations or to follow an instructor in any intricate content. So for a moment like this we have 2 sessions, about 1 hour each - of single bellydance hipwork moves and 2-move combinations - fluid and percussive.
Class 3 is a 40-min. movement flow with classic belly dance steps, level beginner to intermediate. Our goal is to work on coordination of hipwork and footwork with bellydance arm patterns. These are classic belly dance arm trajectories and arm frames added to mini-combinations weaving together some hipwork and footwork. When you dance, especially when you improvise, it may be challenging to keep clean arm trajectories - nothing fancy, just clean - and that’s why we do this practice - to have options for arms patterns and frames that will be committed to our muscle memory, so your arms are on autopilot even if you focus mostly on your hips during your performance.
In Class 4 (1 hr 15 min) we’ll cover a bunch of bellydance hipwork combinations and assemble them into a practice choreography. In performance choreography we vary our pacing, alternate hipwork with floor patterns, travel, poses, turns and full-body articulation moves to make it interesting. In today’s practice choreography, however, it’s just hipwork, going back to traditional Arabic dance where travel and sophisticated arm patterns weren't used.
