Building Services
HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection
Description
This course will present how to cover aspects of Building Services with respect to provide thermal comfort, water supply and drainage, and fire detection and protection. Participants will understand the concept of heat transfer in buildings, fluid flow in pipes, learn the calculations incorporated into the design of the air ducting system, pipe sizing for water and drainage and fire suppression systems. Participants are introduced to the basic principles of residential air system, piping system for water and drainage and fire suppression system. This online course is arranged as a prerequisite for mechanical engineering and architecture students to learn the fundamentals they need and for the HVAC and plumbing professionals or staff wanting to build their basic knowledge of building services or technicians responsible for dealing with heating, ventilation, and plumbing. Learners will also examine the mechanical and Plumbing systems that must be incorporated into building design. Purposes and needs will be identified and examined for building services and utilities while remaining compliant with the appropriate codes. This course will also use codes and standards that are applied in various disciplines and explain the purpose of implementing them in addition to encompass how needs and wants within a building design are limited by construction practicalities.
