Description

This comprehensive introductory course will give you the clarity and background to understand data privacy and why it's important to most humans walking this planet - and how this relates to the evolution of data privacy laws like the CCPA.

Data is basic - it's the foundation of what's happening behind the scenes in a technology-driven world. Yet, so few people know enough about data. Do you know who owns your data? Have you ever considered your willingness to give away your data to others?

Governments in many countries have begun to look at data as a force to be reckoned with. In this course, you'll learn about when this started and how it began to affect businesses.

Specifically, the CCPA law went into effect on January 1, 2023. This law has created data privacy guidelines for certain businesses that serve California residents. This course will give you the background you need to understand the CCPA.

Data privacy is an intimidating term, reverently mentioned by the IT department, politicians, lawyers and judges. Together, we'll take a step back and address the background history of data privacy. You'll learn all about the history of data privacy leading up to the establishment of the CCPA.

It's also important to understand the 'why' of data privacy. In this course, you'll gain an understanding of three timeless privacy concepts and their relevance and importance for today - and for the future.

You'll learn the scope of the CCPA, the five consumer rights outlined in the law, and a general overview of the rights provided to consumers by this law.

In the second half of the course we tackle implementation of the CCPA, discussing challenges and potential issues and how to manage them.

Finally, you'll learn about risk management strategies that can help alleviate the risk surrounding data privacy, and we'll explore some interesting developments in the future of privacy.
