Celtic Goddesses and Warrior Queens
Reclaiming Your Warrior Self
Description
From the mysterious world of the ancient Celts come a number of women who were renowned for their own power, their warrior strength and their independence. These women, some historical characters, others whose myth surrounds any source of truth, led revolts against enemies, trained warriors and heroes, and even through their powerful “woman’s magic”, were able to curse men for nine times nine generations.
Throughout this course we will consider some of these Celtic queens and warrior goddesses whose stories remain with us today:
Boudica of the Iceni who led a revolt against the Romans in 60 AD and who almost succeeded,
Scathach, the trainer and initiator of warriors and heroes to lives on the shadowy Isle of Skye off north-western Scotland,
Macha, the Irish queen, who through her powerful “woman’s magic”, was able to curse men of the Irish country of Ulster for nine times nine generations,
The Morrighan of the battlefield, the “Great Phantom Queen” and the foreteller of many prophesies of doom),
Grace O’Malley, the 17th century Irish pirate who Queen Elizabeth the First was rumoured to have considered to be an equal.
and many more.
The aim of this course is to draw inspiration from these powerful and somewhat awe-inspiring Celtic figures in order to tap into the inner strength that lies deep within our own selves. We can then use this inspiration to empower our own being in order to enrich our own lives, improve how we see ourselves, build up our self-worth and self-esteem, and stand tall and proud of who we are, regardless of whether we are of Celtic heritage or not, and regardless of how we may identify our gender to be (or not). The power and the tenacity of these Celtic Goddesses and Warrior Queens can be used to inspire us all.
