Civil 3D Point Essentials
Learn How to Use Points, Groups & Edit Styles
Description
These courses will introduce you to the coordinate geometry (COGO) points that serve as the foundation for modeling land surfaces. These lessons show you how to classify a big collection of survey points into more manageable groupings and how to import survey information from a database into a drawing.
It is a good idea to build up your drawing environment such that as new points are formed, they are organized into meaningful groups and given the proper styles and other qualities before importing a big set of points.
Autodesk Civil 3D's fundamental building pieces are points. In land development projects, points can be used to pinpoint existing ground positions and architectural components.
Points have distinctive names and numbers. Every point has attributes, which might include details like northing, easting, elevation, and description. Additional properties that can affect how a point appears in a drawing include a point style, a point label style, and a layer.
A point may be present outside of a project in a single drawing or it may be incorporated in an Autodesk Civil 3D project so that it may be accessed by numerous users. See About Managing Points for further details on the distinctions between project and drawing points.
Coordinate Geometry (COGO) points are distinct from AutoCAD point nodes and are the points produced by Autodesk Civil 3D. Only coordinate data (XYZ values) are associated with AutoCAD point nodes. However, in addition to coordinate information, COGO points also have a number of other features, such as point number, point name, raw (field) description, and complete (expanded) description. Contrary to AutoCAD point nodes, which are contained within a single drawing, COGO points can be kept outside of a drawing in a project and used as references by numerous users. The term "point" in Autodesk Civil 3D refers to a COGO point rather than an AutoCAD point node.
