Level 2-Story 1, Where are the Tags – Phonetic Elements: /wh, ph/

The MAIN IDEA, “Awareness of Laws that Protect Pets.” This Value Theme shows how to be a responsible owner and to properly take care of your pet.

The PRESTORY BACKGROUND tells about owning and taking proper care of a pet. It teaches responsibility toward animals and the proper care of a pet and to be aware of the local laws pet owners need to be aware of.

The story is written around the phonetic elements of wh and ph and shows the reader how each letter is used in words. The narration provides further reading skills by listening to the words and sentences allowing the learner to not only see the word, but to hear it pronounced.

LISTENING TO THE STORY WITHOUT NARRATION allows the student to hear the words pronounced along with viewing the story on screen, demonstrating the relationship between letters, words and sounds.

Module 2 contains the steps 4-6;

  • Phonics, Writing and Spelling (Step 4),

  • Fiction/Non Fiction Writing (Step 5), and

  • Vocabulary and Expressive Speaking (Step 6)

PHONICS, WRITING AND SPELLING provides the student with creative ways to listen to their voice, and to recognize the sound that’s said by others.

This section continues with activities for letters wh and ph through the following activities:

  • Listening

  • Consonant Digraphs and blends introduction

  • Personal Possessives in parts of speech

  • Rhyming

  • Writing Directions

  • Body Writing

  • Sound Sentences

  • Compound Words

  • Quickie Questions

  • Blends and Words to Sound, Read and Spell, and

  • Sight Words


    These steps are critical for the student to accomplish as many of the activities and exercises as the teacher feels is needed. However, please don’t skip over these activities, they’re here for the student to fully grasp the reading process and story comprehension. They prepare the student for more challenging and advanced reading skills within the CompuRead Program.

The CompuRead Program is noted for its success due to the step-by-step and skill-by-skill process whereby the student takes small steps in learning to read. Take your time and allow the student to learn at their own pace and success will be assured.

FICTION NONFICTION WRITING includes several genres that the CompuRead program stories are written around. It also emphasizes the story title, main idea and the specific genre, Animal Story/Realistic Fiction, that this story was written under.

VOCABULARY AND EXPRESSIVE SPEAKING includes relevant phrases that enhances the student’s vocabulary and sight word mastery.

Module 3 contains the steps 7-9;

  • Science Background (Step 7),

  • Story Mapping (Step 8) and

  • Home Fun (Step 9)

SCIENCE BACKGROUND addresses the fact that a town or cities pet rules need to be followed for everyone’s safety. It talks about animal shelters and not allowing your pet to run astray. Animal can be adopted through a shelter.

STORY MAPPING again reviews the story telling and writing process and shows the various aspects of writing and how a story is composed.

HOME FUN contains activities the student can be involved with at home to assist in his learning to read process. In this section, it emphasizes how parents can work with their child to assist in making a dictionary. For beginning readers, a picture dictionary might be appropriate. National Testing is also addressed and it gives many educationally tested tips to prepare your child for a successful testing experience.

The Certificate of Completion provides a way for the student and teacher to review the concepts learned and tracks the student’s progress through the CompuRead Courses reading program.

These steps in the reading process provide additional reading experiences for the young reader in expanding reading education. These steps greatly assists the student along the path of fluent reading and writing. Don’t forget to download the Reading Skills Review and Certificate of Completion upon completing this course.
