Fundamentals of dyslexia intervention
Multisensory and evidence-based techniques to help students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties
Description
Are you working with a child who struggles to read? Does your student read too slowly, or with too many mistakes? Does your child read without understanding or remembering what he/she has read? Would you like to have a clear representation of the links between sounds and spellings in English? Do you want to learn how to teach phonics in an engaging and multisensory way?
If you have answered 'yes' to any of the above, this course can help you. You will learn the most effective techniques to develop reading fluency (reading fast and without mistakes) and comprehension. The contents of the course are based on different evidence-based interventions such as the Orto-Gillingham and the latest research outcomes on reading intervention. You will also learn to distinguish between the different problems that a child can have when it comes to reading, and then to choose a suitable strategy depending on that. In addition, you will have access to a colour-coded system that you can use in your lessons to help students to understand the links between sounds and spellings in English. If English is not your native language, or if you have not learned English using a phonics-based method, this course will also help you to have a much clear and useful view of the links between sounds and spellings in English.
The course is delivered in a friendly manner, and you will feel that you are in a class with me practising all these techniques. The aim is that you will choose which techniques are suitable for the child
When it comes to delivering the intervention, you will be able to recognize what your child or student struggles with, and then apply a suitable technique with the resources provided in the course, and also with the books or texts that the student uses for school.
In more detail, you will develop your skills in:
- Apply phonics knowledge
- Improve reading fluency
- Read in a way that promotes reading comprehension.
I have been doing literacy intervention for more than 10 years now. In this course, I am sharing what I actually use with my students on a daily basis. I know it works and I am sure that more children will benefit from it thanks to this course.
