This course contains rhythms for beginner drummers, but subsequent variations with a high-hat in the left foot, and a ride, as well as variations with opening the hat to strong and weak beats (in coordination) complicate this video course to a professional level, which will be useful for advanced drummers as well. Rhythms are arranged in order of technical complexity. Learn and play the rhythms in order. Video tutorials are built conceptually. Each next groove becomes more complicated in technical terms, and gives all possible options for interaction in terms of coordination. I have been practicing this course of study with students for 30 years. Its effectiveness has been tested by time. Creative success to you in mastering the drum set!
1. The first rhythm (beat) that all beginner drummers learn is the beat rhythm with eighth notes in the hi-hat. Despite its simplicity, it is very often used by popular rock bands. For example, the band ACDC uses this groove in almost half of their songs. Having learned it, you can play several songs from their repertoire. Do not forget about the accents on the hi-hat, with the help of accents the rhythm will become alive, and the pulsation will give a feeling of a rocking groove.
2. The second rhythm pattern in our video school for beginner drummers is POP BEAT. It is one of the commonly used grooves in popular music. It is also often used by rock musicians. The range of application of rhythmic pattern is huge. For example, you can hear it from such groups, and performers as the Time Machine, Konstantin Nikolsky, Yuri Antonov, Mikhail Krug (Vladimir Central has not been canceled by anyone :), Alexander Ivanov (God, what a trifle), Smokey's group, etc.
3. The third beat is a classic rock groove. You will feel the feeling of fatal rhythm immediately after parsing this rhythmic pattern. Almost every old school rock band you will hear this rhythm. Whitesnake, Rainbow, Kiss, Accept, ACDC, from our Aria, Gorky Park, and other bands use this rhythmic pattern.
4. Rhythm 4 speaks for itself, it's a groove from Status Qwo's popular song - In The Army Now. The rhythm is played in eighth notes on a hat, but is more difficult than the previous rock beat in terms of coordination. With each subsequent groove, the task becomes more difficult. In this pattern, kicks and the snare come on the downbeat, which means they coincide with the hat. By learning this beat, you can play this song and take one step closer to your dream of learning how to play the drum kit.
5. The fifth beat in our drumming tutorial is a rhythm that everyone has probably heard. Swedish rock band Europe - The Final Countdown. This song captivated many listeners thanks to the rock groove. In addition to the pulsation on the hi-hat, there are hits on the weak beats on the kick (between hat hits) with it, which makes it more complex than the previous beat. You need to study in an interesting way, not just hammer boring rudiments, but see the result of classes, and play your favorite songs.))
6. The sixth rhythm we'll cover is the POP-Rock groove. This is a rhythm often used by Russian Rock bands. Groups like Bi-2, Chicherin, DDT, Spleen, etc. Also popular dance group Hands Up used Loop with this rhythm. If you add ghost notes to it, and add a tempo, you can get a very cool rhythm that imitates the sound of electronic bands like Prodigy. At a medium tempo, the rhythm is also suitable for playing in the Smooth jazz style.
7. Rhythm 7 is the verse rhythm of Foo Fighters - Learn To Fly. It may seem that this is a rock rhythm, but it seems to me that its roots lie in Latin American music. If you listen carefully, this is the first phrase of the bossa nova rhythm. Distinguishes this rhythm from the previous drawings by the snare drum part. The snare drum here plays on 3 and 6 eighth notes, which gives the student the experience of shifting beats, and syncopating to the snare.
8. The eighth rhythm pattern is the chorus rhythm of the Foo Fighters - Learn To Fly. It's a pure rock rhythm, straight and pumping. Don't forget the pulsation on the hi-hat, the right hand plays the up-down technique, as in all examples of beat rhythms. Look carefully at the video, at what points of the hat, and with what force the blows are delivered. To play in rock style, you need a powerful pitch and energy. Punch through all exercises by playing rim shot on the snare drum.
9. Rhythm 9 is taken from The Killers — Smile like you mean it. More precisely, this is a couplet rhythm that is played in eighth notes. In the chorus, the same rhythmic pattern of the kick and snare is played, and the hi-hat plays in sixteenth notes.
10. The tenth rhythm is played in the popular song Blur - Beat Song 2. This is a more complex groove than the previous ones. We connect the alto part, and move on in the development of coordination.
