Description

This course is for parents who scour the web, looking for guidance on how to start teaching reading to their children. It's taught by a professional reading tutor who had to sift through tons of advice on teaching early reading after her daughter hit toddler age, and found that a shocking amount of it went against her own knowledge of how written English language works. Now, she is distilling what worked for her into manageable short activities that any parent can do.

The core content includes:

  • How to teach letter names in the proper order

  • How to correctly teach sound-symbol correspondence (and yes, it's sound-symbol, not sound-letter correspondence...<sh> is a symbol that consists of two letters)

  • How to model and teach the way sounds blend into words

  • How to teach about word structure to set up your child for advanced vocabulary acquisition later on

  • How to discuss books in a way that builds reading comprehension

  • How to reinforce core reading skills while reading to your child

In addition to the core content, example videos and clarification videos will be added as parent questions come up. The course content will be updated regularly to make the content as clear as possible, helping parents feel confident in teaching their child to read.
