Music Theory made easy- taught by kids; made for all
videos, games and quizzes to make music theory easy and fun
Description
Introductory to music theory course taught by two kids (8 and 10 years old) with help from their dad. This course covers topics including intervals, scales, chords, harmony, melody, keys, the Circle of 5ths and more, culminating in the tools to write your own song. It is mainly a theory course but uses the piano as the vehicle to learn. While it is taught by kids and accessible for young learners, it contains lots of rich content, and we hope to reach audiences of all ages who are interested in music theory.
The approach we took in this course strives to appeal to those with different learning styles, so the instruction is done through videos but most sections also include additional resources in the form of text and images. Each section also includes an activity/game to practice the skills you have learned as well as a quiz to test your knowledge as you go.
The idea to create this course was born out of years of practicing piano and learning theory together and finding some creative ways to make learning music fun. We began by making a few videos for a friend who was learning piano, and it took off from there. Mark is a believer that teaching a skill will help ensure mastery of the subject matter, so we just kept going!
