This course, History of Adaptive Fashion, dives into the origins of the adaptive fashion movement. We will begin with the fashion inventions that enabled easier dressing; discuss the achievements of the mother of adaptive fashion, Helen Cookman; and cover the rise, fall, and resurgence of adaptive fashion. This course is intended for individuals in the fashion industry interested in learning more about adaptive fashion. This course will benefit designers, technical designers, production managers, merchandisers, buyers, e-commerce specialists, marketing teams, company executives, and more. Although no prerequisites are needed for this course, it is recommended to take Course 1: Introduction to Adaptive Fashion before taking this course.
The first lecture of this course provides a brief instructor and course introduction. The second lecture covers the first part of the adaptive fashion timeline, focusing on the foundations of adaptive fashion. Lecutre 3 covers the second part of the adaptive fashion timeline, focusing on the rise and fall of the first wave of adaptive fashion and the beginning of the adaptive fashion resurgence. In lecture 4, we will dive into the 21st century pioneers of the second wave of adaptive fashion. After setting the stage with the history of adaptive fashion, we begin to look at the clothing approaches for people with disabilities in lecture 5.
