Living your values can lead to increased fulfilment and joy.
A practical approach to discover the importance of your values and how they influence your life and relationships..
Description
“Your core values are the deeply held beliefs that authentically describe your soul.” John C. Maxwell
“A mission statement is not something you write overnight but fundamentally, your mission statement becomes your constitution, the solid expression of your vision and values. It becomes the criterion by which you measure everything else in your life.” Stephen Covey
These are fundamental principles that guide individuals and society towards what is right, just, and moral. They are an integral part of our personal and social identity, and they play a significant role in shaping our beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours. Strong values are essential in families, workplaces, and countries as they provide a framework for decision-making, conflict resolution, and social cohesion.
In the family, strong values are critical to creating a nurturing and supportive environment. Families with shared values tend to be more cohesive and resilient, even during difficult times. Values such as honesty, respect, and responsibility promote trust and understanding among family members, leading to healthier relationships and more positive outcomes for children. When parents model these values, children are more likely to internalise and adopt them as their own, which can positively impact their future relationships and life choices.
In the workplace, strong values are crucial to creating a positive, motivating, and productive work environment. Organisations with strong values tend to have more engaged and satisfied employees, leading to improved performance and better business outcomes. Values such as integrity, teamwork, and innovation can help to build a culture of trust, respect, and accountability, which can inspire employees to work together towards shared goals. When organisations promote and uphold these values, they can attract and retain talented employees who share their vision and mission.
To experience more positive feelings and fewer negative feelings, you need to explore your values and thoughts. Be prepared to change your perspective (views and expectations) about life if that will make you feel more fulfilled.
We are two facilitators for this course, Drs Ronél le Roux and Rina de Klerk-Weyer, who both have a Ph.D. We did therapy in our private practices before we realised that it is very important to work pro-actively. Working in this way means that we teach and guide people in learning important life skills that they will be able to use in their personal and professional lives. People who have these skills can apply it before and while they experience problems in their lives.
We are passionate to share our wisdom and years of experience with you.
During this course, we will guide students to
Realise the importance of having, knowing and living your values. Values guide you in finding yourself, help you in making sound decisions and give you direction if you are not certain what to do next.
Identify your personal values and how that may help you to make decisions and live according to who you really are
Identify your work values and evaluate their role in your motivation and performance at work
Realising how important it is to define and formulate your own values in stead of adopting those of your parents or other significant people in your life
Applying these skills in your everyday life. We will provide several examples and case studies that will help the students apply their new skills in personal and professional situations.
Knowing your values and needs and using them as the basis for making decisions and living your life is essential for several reasons. It provides a strong foundation for your thoughts, choices, and actions, enabling you to lead a more fulfilling and authentic life. Here are some key benefits of understanding and being aware of the foundation of your values and needs:
Clarity and direction: Knowing your values and needs helps bring clarity to your life. It provides a clear sense of what is truly important to you and what you want to prioritise. When you have a clear understanding of your values and needs, it becomes easier to make decisions aligned with them. You can set meaningful goals and navigate your life with a sense of purpose and direction.
Authenticity and integrity: Your values and needs reflect who you are at your core. When you base your decisions on these fundamental aspects of yourself, you live in alignment with your authentic self. This alignment fosters a sense of integrity, where your thoughts, words, and actions are congruent with your beliefs. Living authentically and with integrity promotes self-respect and a greater sense of self-worth.
Personal growth and fulfilment: Understanding your values and needs allows you to explore and develop yourself further. It creates opportunities for personal growth as you strive to align your life choices with what truly matters to you. By pursuing what aligns with your values and needs, you engage in activities and relationships that bring you fulfilment, satisfaction, and a sense of purpose. This leads to a more meaningful and gratifying life.
Decision-making and prioritisation: When faced with choices, having a clear understanding of your values and needs helps you make decisions that are consistent with your principles. It serves as a compass, guiding you towards choices that are in line with your beliefs and priorities. By prioritising what truly matters to you, you can avoid distractions, make better decisions, and allocate your time and resources effectively.
Resilience and adaptability: Knowing your values and needs provides a strong anchor during challenging times. When faced with difficulties or conflicts, you can draw upon your core values and needs to guide your response. This inner resilience helps you stay true to yourself, maintain your emotional well-being, and adapt to changing circumstances while staying rooted in what is important to you.
Enhanced relationships: Understanding your values and needs enables you to build and nurture relationships that are more fulfilling and meaningful. When your values and needs align with those of others, you can establish deeper connections and shared understanding. It also helps you set boundaries and communicate your needs effectively, promoting healthier and more authentic interactions.
Self-Awareness and self-reflection: Identifying and understanding your values and needs requires self-awareness. By exploring your values and needs, you deepen your understanding of yourself, your motivations, and what brings you joy and satisfaction. This self-awareness allows for self-reflection and personal development, leading to continuous growth and a more intentional approach to life.
Knowing your values and needs and using them as the foundation for your decisions and life choices is crucial for living a fulfilling and authentic life. By being aware of the foundation of your thoughts and choices, you can lead a more purposeful, meaningful, and satisfying life.
Students doing the course will have to complete questionnaires, do homework and self-reflection. They will receive a workbook with various activities to do.
