Transition from Technical Individual Contributor to Manager
Fast track your transition into IT, Engineering, or Product team management by learning these foundational practices
Description
The traditional career path will, at some point, present you with the opportunity to become a manager. I created this course to provide you, a new and aspiring manager, with the concepts, tools, and tricks to succeed in this new role.
Whether you're looking out ahead, faced with the decision, or have recently decided to go for it, I'll show you how to scope, justify, hire, manage, and retain a technical team from start to finish, in-person or remote. But we won't stop there!
Each section is tailored to specifically address some of the common questions from new managers. I'll show you how to get work done (as a manager), how to communicate and manage relationships in all direction - downwards, upwards, and laterally. We'll go over what you can expect in your first 90 days and how to participate in the company's operational key results exercises.
We'll focus on you, too, with exercises to identify your managerial style and create a transition plan. Plus, I'll suggest additional materials and actions you can take to position yourself for the transition. This includes developing your professional social media presence, signing up for free newsletters, and following established business leaders on social media.
For many, making the transition often occurs without training or a firm understanding of what it requires. This course is an introduction to key managerial practices to aid in the adoption of a manager’s skill set. Whether you're a high performing individual contributor in a technical role, an individual new to management, or simply aspiring to become a manager of technology teams, you will find this course content beneficial to your goals.
