ICT (information and communications technology – or technologies) is an umbrella term that includes any communication device, medium, application, or technologies that provide access to information through telecommunications. This includes the Internet, Fibre Optic Networks, Fixed and Mobile Wireless networks, and other communication mediums. In the past few decades, information and communication technologies have provided society with a vast array of new communication capabilities. As such modern information and communication technologies have created a “global village,” in which people can communicate with others across the world as if they were living next door.

It provides a basic understanding of ICT, networks and services and their technologies. It covers the basic principles of storage, retrieval, manipulation; processing, access, transmission and switching of digital data and the way people and organisations communicate and share information digitally with each other.

This is an introductory course on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Topics include ICT terminologies, hardware and software components, the internet and world wide web (the Internet is infrastructure while the Web is service on top of that infrastructure.), and ICT based applications.

With the help of this course  we will understand different terms associated with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Identify various components of a computer system.
