Introduction to Immunology
Basics of immunology
Description
The Introductio to immunology course is designed to introduce the basic concepts of immunology. There are no prerequisites for the course but a basic high school level understanding of biology would be useful. Knowledge of basic biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and physiology will be a plus. After completion of the course, you will have a fair understanding of what the immune system is, the components of the immune system, the organization of the immune system and the functioning of the immune system. You will learn all the way from the molecular level to the organ level functioning of the immune system. This course will be helpful for anyone interested to learn about the immune system, students preparing for their university exams and students preparing for other competitive exams.
The course will broadly cover the following topics
1. Components of the immune system
2. Organization of the immune components
3. Functioning of the immune system
4. Development of the immune response
5. Innate immune response and adaptive immune response
6. Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) and its role in the immune response.
7. How the immune system differentiates between self and non-self
8. T cell immune response - TCRs, signalling, proliferation
9. B cell immune response - antibodies, their structure and function, plasma cells and memory B cells.
