With the recent unrest around the nation due to racist incidents, many are wondering how to promote healing in the Black community. It Takes a Village: Working with African American Clients is a course that will provide mental health practitioners and health care providers with a foundation of African American Psychology. African American Psychology provides a Multisystems approach that will assist in helping African American Clients, in a culturally sensitive manner, to address the psychological repercussions of racism, discrimination and various health disparities, which helps the clients learn coping skills to manage their mental health symptomatology. It Takes a Village features evidence-based practices that will assist practitioners in developing culturally appropriate mental health interventions. These interventions will enhance the therapeutic relationship, decrease clients’ mental health symptomatology and improve their overall quality of life.
