Learn Grade 12 Mathematics Now (Part 2)
Arithmetic Series
Description
You will learn all concepts relevant to arithmetic series and, hence, will be able to solve questions based on this topic. These concepts relate to the n-th term, arithmetic mean, the sum to n terms, basic applications based on the n-th term and the sum to n terms. Finally, you will be able to solve more advanced applications based on all concepts taught in this course.
You will be taught the notation used to denote the first term and the concept of the common difference. At this stage, you will see that linear number patterns are simply arithmetic series. Note that in linear number patterns you learnt the concept of the constant first difference. In arithmetic series this is simply called the common difference.
You will learn a concise way of denoting the n-th term, i.e., the n-th term is simply the last term of the arithmetic series which will be denoted by the letter "l".
You will also be taught the sigma notation which is a concise way of indicating that you'd like to add up terms.
The course will also include derivations of a a few formulae. These are as follows:
1. The formula for the sum to n-terms;
2. The formula for the sum of 1 for i ranging from i=1 to i=n;
3. The formula for the sum of i for i ranging from i=1 to i=n.
What You Will Learn!
- Arithmetic Series: Understanding the n-th term and the arithmetic mean
- Arithmetic Series: Understanding the sum to n-terms
- Arithmetic Series: Applications based on the n-term and the arithmetic mean
- Arithmetic Series: Mixed, yet basic applications
- Arithmetic Series: Advanced applications
