Managerial Skills Lessons
Description
Skill; It is the power of a person to gain from the knowledge, experience, intelligence and innate abilities gained by education.
We define people who have the power to make, realize and finalize them as “skillful”. Skill is a result of integrated factors.
Intelligence alone or education alone is not enough to experience experience alone. If we are talking about management skills, we need to remember the factors that enable us to successfully manage the phenomenon of management. Which factors are successful and our management skills are perceived as high? Scientists have sought answers to this question and have tackled a large number of skills in a wide range of skills by grouping them under specific headings.
Types of Managerial Skills
Just as a professional basketball player needs to know how to defend and attack in a basketball or how a home builder understands the process of framing a home, managers need a specific skill set to perform their job effectively. Management skills are what the manager uses to help the organization achieve its goals. Specifically, a manager uses their own talents, knowledge base, experience and perspectives to increase the productivity of those they manage.
The toolbox a manager needs to perform his job effectively typically falls into one of three categories: technical skills, human skills, and conceptual skills. To give you a better understanding of these skills, let's look at how each of these skills was implemented by Director Fatih and his employee, Financial Analyst Alice.
technical skills
Technical skills are the skills necessary to perform a specific task. It is the 'how-to' skill set that enables a manager to complete his or her job. These skills are a combination of formal education, training and on-the-job experience. Most employees expect their managers to have a technical skill set above their own so that when needed an employee can come to their manager to learn how to do something specific to their job.
For example, let's say that part of Financial Analyst Ali's job is to update a balance sheet each week. Ali is a novice financial analyst and new to the company, so he waits for his manager Fatih to show you how to handle this task from the start. Now he can finally do it on his own. Therefore, it is very important for Fatih to have technical skills on how to update a balance sheet. He can now share this skill with Ali.
Human skills
The next type of skill a manager must have is human skills. These interpersonal skills are what a manager will use to work with their employees. Some people are born with good human skills. It's essential that people who don't have this skill work harder on it. Human skills are critical to all managers because they work with people. Managers with good human skills understand their role in the manager/employee relationship and how important things like trust, compliance, fairness, empathy and goodwill are to the overall success of the organization. Human skills help the manager guide, direct and motivate an employee to work towards a higher level of productivity.
For example, let's go back to Ali and Fatih. Consider that Ali's job description has changed to include more responsibilities. There are more responsibilities but the salary is the same. Ali is sad and feels overwhelmed by this change. Fatih is a manager with good people skills, so he can empathize and communicate Ali's understanding of frustration with his change. Fatih works quickly to motivate Ali to continue working at a higher level despite the additional workload on him.
Conceptual skills
Conceptual skills are the last skills a manager should have in their toolbox. The analytical ability to anticipate both the parts and the sum translates directly into the manager's conceptual skill set. Essentially, a manager's conceptual skills enable him to solve problems in a strategic and calculated way. Conceptual skills are becoming more and more important in today's chaotic business environment.
Managers are constantly challenged to think of organizations conceptually in order to develop action plans and use resources to achieve organizational goals. A manager with good conceptual skills can look at a problem, break it down into manageable parts, and consider various possible solutions before putting it back together more effectively and efficiently. Conceptual skills are essential for senior managers, but also important for middle and lower level managers.
For Fatih, using his conceptual skills may involve analyzing problems specific to his employees. For example, Ali's job has changed. Before Fatih uses his human skills to empathize with Ali's situation, he must also consider the facts first so that he can provide him with good reasoning and a plan of action. It means that Fatih should consider why this change is necessary. As an example of these thoughts; who it will affect and in what way; will be good enough to serve; how to create and evaluate new performance measures for additional responsibilities; What training will need to be provided for Ali to fulfill his new responsibilities well…
