Mental Health From a Patient's POV

Gaining Empathy For Those Suffering From Mental Illness

Description

There are many courses talking from a teacher's or professional's point of view. Rarely do we see videos from a patient's point of view. These videos were recorded during different stages of my mental health. These videos encompass roughly a year from being very unwell to a period of wellness that I still enjoy today.

They focus on psychiatric disorders, treatments, etc that I have either been through myself or I asked about from other mentally ill friends. There is one topic concerning medications, but only discussing side effects that many users deal with while taking them.

Some of the material is as basic as describing anxiety tips. Other topics include ECT and delusions. I tried to speak as plainly as possible as to what this means to a patient.

Topics Covered:

Agoraphobia

Anxiety Tips

Atypical Antipsychotics

Basic ECT

Basic Bipolar

Borderline Personality Disorder

Delusions

Depression

Hallucinations

Healthy Sleeping Habits

How to Talk to Loved Ones About Mental Health

Medications & Side Effects

Panic Disorder

Seasonal Affective Disorder

Schizoaffective: Positive & Negative Symptoms

Schizoaffective Disorder: A Basic Understanding

Schizophrenia vs Schizoaffective Disorder

It is my hope that you gain a better understanding of what it means to be diagnosed and go through these issues. Some of the definitions come from the DSM and other come from the NAMI website or other sites. It is also my desire that you feel empathy for those suffering from mental illness.
