About Prof. Jin-Sung  (LUKE) Kim

Professor Jin-Sung  (LUKE) Kim is a neurosurgeon who specializes in minimally invasive spinal surgery, navigation-guided spinal surgery, endoscopic spinal surgery, and is interested in robot-assisted and augmented reality assisted spinal surgery.


Professor of Neurosurgery, St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic University of Korea since 2012. In addition, he has been appointed as a visiting professor of Orthopedics, Honghui Hospital, Xi 'an Jiaotong University School of Medicine since 2015.


A native of South Korea, Professor LUKE graduated from the Catholic University of Korea School of Medicine with a bachelor's degree in 1997. He received his PhD in neurosurgery from the Catholic University of Korea School of Medicine in 2013. He was a public health physician for three years from 1997 to 2002, followed by one year of residency at St. Vincent's Hospital and four years of residency at Catholic Medical Center. After that, he attended Wooridul Spine Hospital, the largest spine center in South Korea, which has more than 10,000 minimally invasive spine cases.


Professor Kim has published a total of more than 120 peer-reviewed articles in most spine journals and has served as a reviewer in Spine Journal, Neurosurgery, World Neurosurgery, Neurospine, Medicine and other journals. He has been associate editor of Global Spine Journal and editorial board member of Neurospine, Medicine, and Asian Spine Journal.


Professor Kim's clinical interests focus on minimally invasive spinal surgery for degenerative diseases, tumors, and other minimally invasive spinal surgery treatment. He is a world-renowned pioneer and leader in minimally invasive and navigated spinal surgery. In terms of academic positions, he served as chairman of the inaugural Endoscopy Forum at AO Davos 2018. He also led several international endoscopy courses at NASS 2018 and GSC from 2018 to 2020. He also served as the International Director of SMISS(Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery) and Co-Chair of SMISS Asia Pacific Chapter from 2018 to 2019.
