Petrel Seismic Interpretation for Beginners

An Introduction to Interpreting Faults and Horizons in Seismic Data using Petrel

Ratings: 4.60 / 5.00

Description

This course is designed for Geoscience and Subsurface professionals who want to learn  for the first time or receive a refresher of basic seismic interpretation methods in Schlumberger's Petrel software. During this course, we will cover topics such as how to launch Petrel, create a new project, import and condition seismic data, basic seismic interpretation methods, interpretation tips and tricks, and generating output surface objects from seismic interpretations. The instructor has 20 years of experience using Petrel in real-world production and exploration capacities.

The course involves several short lectures with related exercises, and includes comprehensive end-to-end  steps for the entire basic seismic interpretation workflow. We will use public-domain data made available as a free download to all students to demonstrate the basic usage of Petrel software and seismic interpretation methods so you can begin maximizing your effectiveness as an interpreter right away. Learn how to interpret faults and horizons, create surface objects from interpretations, and much more.

No previous experience with Petrel is necessary. Students will be provided with a training SEGY volume and .pdf's of all Assignments and Workflows. A licensed version of Schlumberger Petrel with the Seismic Interpretation module is strongly recommended for those who wish to follow along with the course, but is not required to extract value from the content. This course can be completed in "lecture-only" or interactive follow-along format, with or without the software.

This is perhaps the most effective way to supercharge your Petrel skills, or refresh some that haven't been used recently.
