Preliminary Cost Estimation: Plumbing & Fire Systems
Fundamentals, Technology, Preliminary Cost Estimation: How to cost estimate Plumbing and Fire Suppression
Description
This course is divided in three sections. The first will cover the context, the second would cover plumbing systems and the third is about fire suppression systems.
CONTEXT
In the Context, will be presented the rational why electro-mechanical systems seem to be left behind. Then a non-exhaustive list of reference cost books used in North America, Europe and Australia will be presented. Lastly a summary note is given about imperial and metrics system, especial on how to change a value from one system to another.
PLUMBING SYSTEMS
How do you determine requirements in terms of plumbing fixtures in for a given building project? This section will provide an answer, from occupancy load to hot water requirements. Then how do you determine the number of roof basins and the size of roof drains? And most importantly how to derive the cost of plumbing systems?
FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS
The objective of fire suppression system will be reviewed. Then a presentation of the most common fire sprinkler systems will be presented. What about standpipe? When are they required and how to size them? How to do preliminary design of a fire pumps? These questions will be addressed.
CASE STUDY
A case study will be provided on preliminary design and costing of plumbing systems and fire suppression systems
