Virtual Lab on Machine Dynamics & Mechanical Vibrations
Learn simulation and analysis of various experiments using Machine Dynamics and Mechanical Vibrations Virtual Lab
Description
This course explains the use of Virtual Labs for Machine Dynamics and Mechanical Vibrations lab. It takes you through various simulation experiments of free and forced vibrations. In case of absence of a working Mechanical Vibrations laboratory, this type of simulation analysis helps in understanding how to study the experiments. All the experiments of this lab has been explained in detail so as to gain the understanding of various concepts and features of the virtual lab and for practice so that expertise can be gained in handling the online simulation lab.
We start with Introduction to Virtual Labs and Introduction to Machine Dynamics and Mechanical Vibrations(MDMV) Lab. We discuss the scope of Virtual Labs and what are the contents of the MDMV lab.
Second section deals with Free Vibration Experiments. Here the procedure for three experiments have been explained namely, Free Vibration of- Cantilever beam, Simply Supported beam and Fixed beam. The purpose of these experiment are to determine the logarithmic decrement, damping ratio, damping frequency and natural frequency of a cantilever beam under free vibration.
Third section is all about the Forced Vibration Experiments. Here the procedure for five experiments have been explained namely, Forced vibration of SDOF system, Base Excitation, Rotating Unbalance, 2DOF Forced vibration and Dynamic Vibration Absorber. Simulation and analysis of single degree of freedom system and two degree of freedom system has been explained. Also graph plotting of dynamic amplitude versus frequency ratio has been done.
What You Will Learn!
- Find the stiffness and critical damping of the system.
- Calculate the damping coefficient, logarithmic decrement, damping ratio, damping frequency, and natural frequency of the system.
- Learn the effect of damping in forced vibration of a single degree of freedom due to forces.
- Understand the application of force excitation on two degrees of freedom spring-mass system.
- Find how to set secondary mass parameters in order to absorb primary mass vibration.
