Walking the Land of the Old Testament
Gain in-depth knowledge of the Hebrew Scriptures through a study of the Holy Land.
Description
Walking the Land of the Old Testament can be used as an introduction to the Hebrew Scriptures, but it will take you far beyond the simple narrative that is often taught in churches and seminaries today. Instead, it focuses on tools that allow you to penetrate a depth of meaning and offers numerous examples of how to do that.
The course begins with an in-depth knowledge of the land and uses images and a Bible atlas for that purpose. Then you will learn and practice the basic skill of a word study with an online concordance using Hebrew words, not English translations (don’t worry, you don’t need to know Hebrew). Examples will demonstrate how this tool can take you far beyond a surface and literal meaning.
The Bible narrative is expressed in an exquisite artistic style that makes it much more than a simple story. The linguistic artistry drew the ancient people of Israel into a rich depth of meaning about their God, what He is doing in this world, and the role He is asking His people to play. Above all, they came to know and love their God whom Christians call the Father, and they intensely desired to live in harmony with Him so they could draw near to His presence. This is what the Hebraic artistry of the Old Testament text conveys.
