Why is the "first touch" so important in soccer?
The ability to control the ball is essential to be successful at soccer. Players at every level must develop a feel for the ball. Players must practice controlling balls on the ground as well as balls out of the air. Good control is the ability to take the ball with one touch and play the ball with your next movement. A good touch may take time to develop but it is well worth the effort. Whatever the level of your players, practice will always help improve their first touch on the ball.
